No run today, I have decided to rest and regroup for a while until my body and mind let me know when it is time to go. At this point I am not even sure if I want to compete for a while. It feels good to achieve ones goals and even to win but really its not what it is all cracked up to be. When you consider the things that are more satisfying and that have more significance in the eternal perspective such as family and friends everything else is just icing on the cake.

Victory is fleeting but the soul is eternal the slave whispers to the Roman emperor.

I had a similar realization the other day Steve. Not that it was a big a deal as your great run, but... I won a small 10K the other week and thought, "Man this is going to be great to win again after a long streak of runner-ups." But it was pretty much a downer and I was more stoked for my brother to run well than my win. It's more about the journey and the challenge than the actual accomplishment.

But what about the prize money? :)

I'm kidding. You guys both have much to be proud of in your running and are equally fortunate to be able to recognize that thinking of others is a more assured road to a satisfied mind. With that said, enjoy your victories while you can. They may be impermanent, but what isn't?

Oh, and Steve--I doubt highly that I will run Des News. My wife is due the first week of July with Baby Numero Uno and I'm kinda keeping my schedule clear for the short term thereafter. But who knows, it may work out fine. I have never run that race, I am somewhat interested in checking it out.

Savor the moment, I agree that there are larger issues in life, but take the time to enjoy the moment - never forget the time and dedication it took for you to get here. I strongly believe that not embracing this accomplishment not only diminishes the sacrifices that you made, but the sacrifices your family and friends have made to support you. Embrace the larger things in life, but savor the icing on the cake - you earned it.

Sorry everybody, post marathon blues I guess. It was a great marathon afterall.

I fully agree with Scott. Never diminish what you have accomplished, be it your first mile without stopping to walk, a world record, or anything in between, and never let anyone diminish it. There is something sacred about every accomplishment. It is a victory against the devil. He wants us to be mediocre in spirit. When we push our limits and succeed, it is not the physical accomplishment that matters, it is what happened to our spirit as a result. Satan's power is diminished and we become closer to God.
