Today was an interesting day considering the discussion in Sunday school was about priestcraft and the definition of such.  Some people brought up the fact that that the media was responsible with it's worldly influence. Icon names such as Oprah Winfrey were pointed out along with their followers. Even advertisers of luxury goods were also mentioned as practicing a worldly form of priestcraft. I see their point, but I think they missed the big concept of the lesson however, and became somewhtat overzealous in their definitions.  President Benson put it best in this statement; The world seeks to change from the outside inward, the gospel of Christ seeks to change the individual from the inside outwards. This is a simple, but elegant and powerful concept that I have been pondering over since Sunday.   Dark Horse out....

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this. I, too, like Pres. Benson's statement.

Sir Air Darkhorse, I am not the most religious person, but, when Benson spoke, I listened to the quite passion and wisdom. There is no doubt, Benson was a man chosen for the time, when the world needed such a leader.

The world has changed because of human influence. We change the world in all that we do. But it's the spirit within us that determines if will follow the world/carnal flesh, or follow the spirit of Christ. Us as individuals are the ones that will influence the world, with material things or spiritual things.

Sometimes we have to make some tough decisions and deal with temptation.

Sometimes I miss going to regular Sunday School - with Lybi being a ward missionary, I go to the gospel essentials class to support her, and I enjoy the lessons too - especially when she teaches ;^). I like your quote from President Benson - that really does put it best.

That was one of my favorite quotes out of the Book of Mormon class I took in 1994 at BYU. The reason we find ourselves in slums is often because we have allowed slums inside ourselves. Christ will take the slums out of us if we let him, then we will have the power to get out the slums.
